HR and the Innovation Equation

ILR SchoolProducts don’t innovate, people do. This statement underpins the key role HR playsundefinedor should playundefinedin cultivating a consistent, replicable method for driving innovation in organizations. But, the focus on people doesn’t just mean recruitment and retention. For HR, it also means helping to create and promote a culture of innovation, one that values and rewards risk takingundefinedas well as failure.

To begin exploring these issues, fourteen HR executives from nine CAHRS partner companies including Cisco, Google, Microsoft, Comcast Cable, Aetna, Qualcomm, Symantec, Electronic Arts, and Amgen focused on a few major areas: talent’s role in driving innovation, how culture and internal capabilities can support innovation, and the role of external sources in developing internal innovation.

Our Executive Leadership certificate program has course material on innovation that plays in with the findings of this group and may be just what you need if innovation is lacking in your organization or personal repertoire.

Spotlight on: Strategic HR

Spotlight ProgramThe development and execution of a human resources strategy that is aligned with organizational goals and matched to an organization's competencies delivers tangible outcomes for an organization's people, customers, and shareholders. Such a strategy is based on transforming HR from a "business partner" to a "business leader" which requires in-depth knowledge of advanced and emerging HR topics.

As a leader, HR plays a significant role, not only in human-capital development, but in how human capital can contribute to the execution of organizational and business strategies. The Strategic HR Practices Certificate program from Cornell University's ILR School develops the leadership competencies required make this transformation.

This certificate series is designed for manager- and director-level HR professionals charged with improving HR's ability to contribute to organizational strategy and success.
