  • Japan Changes Border Policy, Allows New Entries for Business Purposes Effective March 1

    Beginning March 1, 2022, Japan will lift the effective ban on new entries of foreign nationals for business purposes and implement new measures designed to allow such new entries under supervision conducted by sponsor organizations over the new entrants.   • Japan to ease COVID border controls and lift entry quarantine from March

  • Workplace booster vaccinations kick off in Japan

    All Nippon Airways Co. and Japan Airlines Co. together administered third shots to 242 of their employees at Haneda Airport in Tokyo. ANA and Japan Airlines said they plan to give the booster to 20,000 and 17,000 of their group employees and others, respectively, over the next few months.

  • Why Japan's wages aren't rising

    According to data by the OECD, the average annual wage in Japan increased until 1997 to $38,395, and then flattened out. Wages have maintained that same level ever since. In 2020, the latest data available, the average Japanese worker made $38,515 (equivalent to about ¥4.45 million based on the current exchange rate.)

  • Number of hotel and restaurant workers in Japan fell by 220,000 in 2021

    The number of people employed in the hotel and restaurant sector in Japan plunged by 220,000 to 3.69 million in 2021 from the previous year, the lowest level since comparable data became available in 2002, the internal affairs ministry said Tuesday.

  • Japan's Dec jobless rate falls as monthly employment gain hits near 36-year high
